Alusion™ is produced by Cymat Technologies Ltd, based in Toronto, Canada. An innovative materials technology company, which has exclusive worldwide rights, for producing Alusion™ Stabilized Aluminum Foam, through patents and licenses. Alusion™ creates strong yet lightweight panels which are similar in appearance to a metallic sponge. Alusion™ is visually striking, with a modern dramatic look.
· The top and bottom surfaces of the Alusion™ panels come in two finishes - “Natural” which has
a natural metallic skin or “Open” which exposes the cells on the panel surface.
· Each side of our panels look different due to our continuous casting production process. The side which touches the conveyor belt during production, becomes much shinier. This is why it is also called “the bottom side”.
· Standard Panel sizes: 1220 mm W x 2440 mm L (4’ X 8’), 1220 W mm x 3048 mm L (4’ x 10’), 1220 mm W x 3660 mm L (4’ x 12’). Longer custom panels available for special orders. Panels are available in a standard 1220 mm width (4 ft).
· Standard Thicknesses: 12.7mm (1/2”) & 25.4mm (1”) or in a 43.2mm (1.7”) thickness for large cell panels only. Custom thicknesses also available, but the thinnest architectural material is available in a 12.7 mm. However, the large cell natural material is available in a 9.5 mm thickness, for industrial applications.
· By offering a custom thickness, the cell size is also customizable in size (foam bubbles or cells).
· Custom sizes and shapes can be produced for special orders. Notches, or any type of design cuts must be performed with laser cutting. This service is available by Cymat, but most times this work is done by our contractors. Panels can also be custom cut to size.
· Aluminum foam panels are not structural.
· Bugs do not live in aluminum foam (example spiders, bees etc.)
· Maintenance guide available upon request. Aluminum naturally repels dust, so dust does not collect on the surface of the Alusion panels (no specific maintenance is required). The panels always stay clean, even after years after being installed. For exterior facades, which include powder coated material, a maintenance regime is usually recommended by the manufacturers of the powder coatings.
· Alusion™ can be acrylic or glass coated (Ultra UV resistant). For high traffic areas, the large cell material is usually protected with glass, or acrylic sheets. Standoffs can also be used, either placed through the panel, or adhered behind the panel (for large cell transparent type of applications, example LED back-lit panels etc.).
· For back lit LED Alusion™ panels, please keep in mind that the 25.4 mm thick material (1”) ALFG-25.4-LG-2S is more translucent than the 12.7 mm thick large cell material (1/2”) ALFG- 12.7-LG-2S.
· If Alusion™ is to be used as a flooring application, a thick epoxy layer would need to be applied onto the surface of the panels. This work is done through third-party companies.
· Powder coating or BASF wet paints available in limitless colours for exterior and interior applications, and can also be matched to RAL colour tones. (4084 hrs of continuous salt spray testing has been performed, and has had no affect on our material, testing available upon demand).
· Special powder coats can be applied onto Alusion™, which render the surface salt resistant and/or chemically resistant.
· Special trims are available by partnering companies, on demand (corner trims etc., as well as custom aluminum trims which look identical to the surface of the aluminum foam panels).
· Alusion™ can be bent cold by using a 3 roller bending machine or by using heat on the back surface of the panels (for 3 roller bending, great care must be taken and operator must be patient in their approach, as each increment of curvature must be small enough to avoid cracking on the convex surface. Instructions are available on PDF format).
· Designs and shapes can be added onto our panels, example waves, lines, letters etc.
· Hanging our material: Due to the aluminum foam panels being so light in weight, for exteriors, our façade fabricators will simply adhere them directly onto their metal frame systems (along with girts behind the Alusion panel). For most interior applications, sub contractors will adhere them onto 3 vertical standard furring strips (along with 3M’s DP 8407NS structural adhesive). DESIGN GUIDE is available, upon demand.
· In order to optimize crating & freight costs for larger orders, we recommend a length of 2820 mm or 3580 mm.
Aluminum flakes: due to movement on shipping, you may notice a few aluminum flakes; this is due to the water blasting process employed on open cell panels which results in some small particles being imbedded in the cells of the foam. This does not occur after installation of our panels.
